Whether you’re a foodie, a history fan, a beach lover (or a little bit of everything!), Nantucket is the perfect spot for a spring or summer getaway. With so much to do, see, and eat on the island, there’s truly something for everyone. But how do you know where to start? And what should really be at the top of your to-do list? We’ve got you covered with our top 10 picks of the very best things to do on Nantucket in 2024. So let’s get started…
1. Enjoy the Beaches
A trip to Nantucket wouldn’t be complete without a beach day. During the summer months, you can soak up the sun (and the fun) at one of the island’s many pristine beaches! Jetties Beach, Surfside Beach, and Madaket Beach are all great options for sunbathing, swimming, and trying out some awesome water activities like surfing, boating, and more. Not into water sports? You can still enjoy the beautiful beach views while you grab some food and drinks at Jetties Sandbar.
2. Bike the Island
One of the best ways to get out and explore Nantucket is by bike. With a large network of bike paths on the island, there’s really no better way to enjoy the views while getting some fresh air, too. The Polpis Bike Path and the Dionis via Cliff Road Bike Path are a few of our favorites, offering scenic routes through classic Nantucket landscapes. We also love biking through town and doing a little shopping along the way!
Bike rentals on the island are super easy and affordable. Check out Young’s Bicycle Shop, Nantucket Bike Shop, or Easy Riders Bicycles to book rentals for the whole family!
3. Take a Bus Tour
Biking not for you? Another great way to explore all that the island has to offer is through a bus tour. Nantucket Island Tours offers a signature island tour, a tour of the west end, and even private charters if you’d like to customize your own route. Not only do you get to learn about beautiful Nantucket sites, but you also beat the heat during those warm summer days. It’s a win-win!

7. Catch the Sunset
There’s nothing quite like a Nantucket sunset, and that’s why it’s definitely on our list of top 10 things to do on the island. We recommend grabbing some ice cream from Juice Bar or Jack + Charlie’s, and heading to Steps Beach to watch the sun go down. It’s the perfect way to end your day on Nantucket (and to snap some beautiful pictures!).
8. Stroll Along the Sconset Bluff Walk
Speaking of pictures… You have to check out Sconset Bluff Walk for picture-perfect island views. With stunning hydrangeas and quaint cottages right along the ocean, this path is iconic for a reason! Take your time admiring the beautiful homes, manicured gardens, and beyond.
9. Check Out a Lighthouse
Nantucket is home to quite a few lighthouses, so you have to see at least one during your time on the island. Sankaty Head Lighthouse, Brant Point Lighthouse, and Great Point Lighthouse each provide their own unique views and rich history that’ll excite both locals and visitors alike.
10. Take in the History of Nantucket
Get a glimpse into Nantucket’s past by visiting a few of the museums on the island. The Maria Mitchell Association, Whaling Museum, and the Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum are great resources for learning about the island’s history. From artifacts to art pieces, you’ll be drawn in by all there is to see (and learn). You could also visit the Old Mill to learn about Nantucket’s agricultural history. Dating back to 1746, it’s the oldest functioning windmill in the United States. Plus, it offers some pretty stunning views of Nantucket Harbor!
