Looking Ahead To Spring On Nantucket

Things to do on Nantucket 2024

There’s no denying that Nantucket is beautiful year-round, but there’s something about springtime that makes it truly magical. Between the mild temperatures, fresh blooms, and tranquil yet anticipatory atmosphere before the high-season starts, it’s an ideal time of year to visit the island. And although some restaurants and attractions may still be closed during the spring months, there are plenty of seasonal things to do, see, and eat (without having to wait in crazy long lines, might we add!). Join us as we look ahead to spring on Nantucket and all of the fun that’s in store…

Ring in Spring at the Daffodil Festival:

One of our all-time favorite things during spring on Nantucket is the Daffodil Festival. This year, the 48th annual festival will be held April 25-28. The last weekend in April, (“Daffy weekend” as the locals lovingly call it) is a joyful celebration of spring’s arrival on the island, with stores beginning to reopen their doors and restaurants starting to welcome guests for the season.

Be sure to check out the antique car parade starting at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 27. Main Street will be lined with cool vintage cars — and you might even see some drivers decked out in themed costumes, too! Other activities throughout the weekend include a flower crown party, bike parade, Children’s Beach bandstand, and much more. You don’t want to miss it!

Be sure to book your stay during Daffy weekend ASAP because hotels and properties on the island are sure to fill up fast. Browse our selection of vacation rentals to find the perfect spot to enjoy the seasonal festivities.

Enjoy the Blooming Flowers:

What better way to celebrate spring than with more flowers? Late April, May, and June are the perfect months to witness the wide variety of flowers starting to bloom around the island. Daffodils, tulips, crocuses, lilacs, and hyacinths all start to come alive during this time of year, which creates a beautifully vibrant landscape on Nantucket. Whether you take a bike ride, sit and enjoy the beach, or stroll along Main Street, you’ll experience the magic of the season as Nantucket begins to feel like a real-life Pinterest board again!

Head to the Nantucket Food & Wine Festival:

The Nantucket Wine and Food Festival will be held from May 15-19, bringing together renowned winemakers, chefs, and sommeliers for an incredible celebration of flavors. Spanning the course of five days, this festival includes tastings, meals, seminars, and round tables, drawing over 3,000 attendees to the island annually. You don’t have to be a professional to enjoy it — whether you’re a casual drinker or a food and wine expert, everyone is welcome to gather during this island staple for an unforgettable and tasty weekend.

Attend the Figawi Race and Festivities:

The Figawi Race is a Nantucket tradition that takes place over Memorial Day Weekend, and serves as a kick-off to the summer season. This year, the race and its three-day festivities will take place on May 24-27. Sailors, sailing enthusiasts, and those just wanting to get in on the fun will all come together to watch the race and raise money for a variety of causes — including veterans, first responders, and youth organizations.

Although the race is a tough competition, this weekend is all about promoting friendly camaraderie and fun on the island! Spectators and competitors can enjoy a tent party, clambake, live music, and more throughout the weekend.

Outdoor Seating at Restaurants:

One of the best ways to take in spring on Nantucket is to sit outside and enjoy good food, good drinks, and good company! Many restaurants start to open their patios and outdoor spaces in May, often offering up some amazing island views. Whether you’re overlooking the harbor, beach, or charming streets, sitting outside provides a chance to immerse yourself in the atmosphere, people-watch, and experience the energy of the island.

Here are a few of our favorites:

Island Kitchen: A well-known spot that uses fresh ingredients for simple yet delicious dishes. They have a seasonal outdoor patio that’s great for groups.

Millie’s: A great place to eat after you take in a Nantucket sunset! Located right by the beach, they’re open seasonally from May to October and offer coastal fare and cocktails.

Dune: A sophisticated spot with a lovely atmosphere. Opening in April, they offer an ever-changing menu that utilizes seasonal local produce.
