Local Artists: Non-Profit Spotlight – Artists Association of Nantucket
Filed under Island Times
Who They Are
The Artists Association of Nantucket is a non-profit organization with a goal to foster visual arts on the island. The organization supports local artists, and provides educational programs to the community. The AAN has been active in the community for nearly 75 years, and as a result they have done an excellent job of preserving the works on local Nantucket artists. AAN is led by a team of staff, the Board of Directors, and volunteers that all have a passion for the arts community on Nantucket.
What They Do
The Artists Association has a gallery on Washington Street that displays work by the members of the association. At the gallery they host openings and other various events in order to promote the works of local artists. AAN provides classes for both children and adults at all levels. For example, at their visual arts center on Amelia Drive they offer classes on pottery, oils, mixed media, and printmaking just to name a few. In short, there is something for everyone at the AAN!
Events
There is always something going on at the Artists Association. They host an annual gala in the summer, which is their main fundraising event and includes dinner and both a live and silent auction. Wet Paint/Fresh Works is the AAN Fall fundraiser. This event showcases the latest works of association members, and also includes a live and silent auction. This event takes place over Columbus Day Weekend. Spring Sweep is the associations Spring fundraiser, which takes place right at the gallery on Washington Street. Additionally, AAN hosts sidewalk art shows, artist talks, Small Works, and other events throughout the year. Coming up this month, AAN is hosting their Holiday Small Works event at the gallery on Washington Street. Check their website for an extensive calendar of events.
